This guide will walk you through the process of adding, editing, and managing items in your MovingBox inventory.

Adding Items

Using AI Photo Recognition

Open Add Item Mode

Tap the ”+” button to open the camera view and begin adding items

Take Photos

Position your item(s) in good lighting and take clear photos. Free users can add 1 photo per item, while MovingBox Pro users can add up to 5 photos for enhanced documentation.
Pro users: Take photos from different angles, capture receipts, and add supporting documentation for the most comprehensive AI recognition
Multi-Item Detection: You can now photograph multiple items at once! Our AI will automatically detect and catalog each item separately - perfect for shelves, cabinets, or any space with multiple items. This dramatically reduces the time needed to catalog your belongings.

Review Enhanced AI Results

The app will process your photos with high-resolution AI analysis (up to 1250x1250px for Pro users) and display detailed item information. If multiple items were detected, you’ll see each one listed separately.

Edit if Necessary

Review the information for each detected item and make any needed adjustments:
  • Correct item names if needed
  • Adjust labels and locations if misidentified
  • Add or edit any details
  • Remove any items that were incorrectly detected

Save the Items

Tap “Save” to add all items to your inventory at once

Manual Item Entry

If you prefer to add items manually:
  1. Navigate to the items list
  2. Tap the ”+” button in the top right corner
  3. Tap “Add Manually” in the popup menu
  4. Fill in the item details and optionally add a photo
  5. Tap “Save” to add to your inventory

Editing Item Details

Find the Item

Navigate to your item list and locate the item you want to edit

Open Item Details

Tap on the item to view its details

Enter Edit Mode

Tap the “Edit” button (pencil icon) in the top-right corner

Make Changes

Update any information as needed:
  • Change the item name, label, or description
  • Update value or purchase information
  • Add notes
  • Assign to a different location

Save Changes

Tap “Save” to update the item with your changes

Managing Item Information

Adding Purchase Information

  1. Open the item in edit mode
  2. Scroll to the “Purchase Price” section
  3. Enter details such as:
    • Purchase date
    • Insured or not
  4. Tap “Save” to update

Setting Item Value

MovingBox offers three ways to set an item’s value:

  1. AI Estimation: Use the automatically generated value estimate
  2. Manual Entry: Enter a specific value yourself

To change the value:

  1. Open the item in edit mode
  2. Scroll to the “Purchase Price” section
  3. Enter or adjust the price
  4. Tap “Save”

About Value Estimation

AI value estimates are approximate and based on similar items in the current market. For insurance or appraisal purposes, consider getting professional valuations for high-value items.

Adding Serial Numbers

For electronics and valuable items:
  1. Open the item in edit mode
  2. Scroll to the “Identification” section
  3. Tap “Add Serial Number”
  4. Enter the serial number manually or tap “Scan” to use the camera
  5. Tap “Save”
For high-value items, recording serial numbers can be crucial for insurance claims and recovery of stolen items.

  2. Swipe to the left on any item
  3. Select the trash icon to delete the item
