Print a contents list for each Box and attach it as a label when you are moving or using storage. ## Spaces and Boxes Spaces track rooms, closets, storage areas, and other parts of a home. Boxes are numbered containers inside a Space. A Box holds items, but cannot contain another Space or Box. Start with the structure you already use in the real world. For example: **Home → Basement → Storage Room → Box 12** Spaces can contain other Spaces and Boxes. A Box must be inside a Space and holds items rather than additional locations. ### Creating a Space Choose the home you want to organize, then open Locations. Open the Space that should contain the new location, or start from the home's Locations view. Tap the "+" button in the top-right corner * Name your Space (e.g., "Living Room", "Kitchen", "Storage Unit") * Optionally add a description * You can also add a photo of the Space Tap "Save" to create the Space ### Adding a Numbered Box Navigate to the room, closet, or storage area where the Box belongs. Tap the add-location button and choose Box. Give the Box a name and accept or modify the required Box Number. MovingBox prevents duplicate Box Numbers in the same home. Add new items from the Box or move existing items into it. Boxes cannot contain other Spaces or Boxes. Create another Space when you need another level in the hierarchy. ### Assigning Items to Spaces and Boxes When adding a new item, select the appropriate Space or Box before saving 1. Open an existing item 2. Tap "Edit" 3. Tap the "Location" field 4. Select the desired Space or Box 5. Tap "Save" 1. Navigate to the Locations tab and select a Space or Box 2. MovingBox creates a PDF containing: * The Box name and number * Its complete Home and Space path * A QR code linked to that Box * Assigned item names, quantities, labels, and recorded values * Separate totals when items use different currencies Print the list and attach it to the Box so you can identify it and read what is inside without unpacking it. You can also save or share the PDF with the standard iOS share sheet. This is a contents sheet for one Box. It is not a complete inventory or insurance-report PDF. ### Scanning a Box QR Code Scan from MovingBox's Box QR shortcut or camera interface. You can also use the system Camera app. When the code is recognized, MovingBox opens the matching Box. If a code does not open, confirm MovingBox 2026.2.0 or later is installed, make sure the Box still exists, and try better lighting or hold the camera farther from the printed page. ### Reorganizing Safely You can rename or move Spaces and Boxes as your storage changes. MovingBox prevents location cycles, duplicate Box Numbers within a home, and Boxes from being placed outside a Space. Before deleting a Space, move or delete the child Spaces and Boxes it contains. ## Labels Labels provide the primary way to categorize your items in MovingBox. Both you and the person you invite must have an iCloud account. ## What Collaborators Can Do Invited users have **full edit access** across all your homes: * Add, edit, and delete inventory items * Manage rooms and locations * View and update insurance policy details * Access all homes you've added There is currently no view-only access tier — sharing is designed for trusted co-owners and household members. ## Sending an Invite Go to **Settings** and tap **Manage Homes**, then select the home you want to share. Select **Sharing** from the home settings menu. Tap **Add Person** and enter their iCloud email address or Apple ID. Tap **Send Invite**. The recipient will get a notification to accept. ## Accepting an Invite When someone invites you to their inventory: 1. You'll receive a notification on your device 2. Open the notification or launch MovingBox 3. A prompt will appear asking you to accept or decline the invitation 4. Once accepted, the shared homes appear in your sidebar alongside your own homes ## Removing a Collaborator Go to **Settings** → **Manage Homes** and select the home. Tap **Sharing** to see current collaborators. Swipe left on their name and tap **Remove**, or tap their name and select **Remove Access**. Once removed, they will no longer be able to view or edit the inventory. ## iCloud Requirements * Both the inviter and invitee must be signed into iCloud * Both devices must have an internet connection to accept invites and sync changes * Changes sync automatically — no manual sync required ## Frequently Asked Questions **Can invited users only view, not edit?** Not yet — all invited collaborators have full edit access. A view-only tier is not currently available. **Do shared homes sync to the invited person's device?** Yes. Once the invite is accepted, shared homes appear in their sidebar and stay in sync via iCloud. **What happens if I change phones?** Shared homes carry over automatically via iCloud. You can also ask Siri using the title of an available action, such as “Find items in MovingBox” or “Scan a box QR code in MovingBox.” Siri may ask you to choose an item or provide a search term before opening MovingBox. ## Find Items in Spotlight MovingBox can make inventory items available to Spotlight. For electronics or branded items, include a shot of any visible labels, model numbers, or serial numbers. The AI analyzes the photo and fills in item details. Review and correct anything that's off, then tap **Save**. *** ### Multiple Items (Photo) Best for shelves, cabinets, drawers, or any surface with several items grouped together. Submit up to 10 photos in a single batch — MovingBox detects items across all of them at once. Tap the **+** button to open the camera. Step back enough to capture all the items clearly. Good lighting and minimal clutter help detection accuracy. MovingBox will automatically identify, crop, and organize images from a single batch. Feel free to grab a photo of that serial number, and we'll do our best to figure out where it goes. The AI lists every item it found. Keep what's correct, edit anything that's wrong, and remove any false detections. Tap **Save** to add all kept items to your inventory in one go. Multi-item detection works best when items aren't stacked or heavily overlapping. If something important is missed, add it separately with a single-item photo. *** ### Video (Entire Room) Best for documenting a whole room quickly. Record once, review everything. Available with a **Pro subscription**. Tap the **+** button and select the **Video** tab. Move slowly so each item is visible for at least a second. Aim for 10–30 seconds of coverage. MovingBox extracts frames and identifies items from across the video. Keep what you want, skip the rest. Video is fast but trades some detail for speed. It's the fastest way to build an inventory for a new space. Video analysis requires a **MovingBox Pro** subscription. ## How It Works 1. Record a short video panning across a room 2. MovingBox extracts frames from the video and sends them to AI analysis 3. Every detected item is presented for your review 4. Keep the items you want, skip the rest 5. Kept items are added directly to your inventory ## Recording a Video Tap the **+** button in the app to open the item capture interface. Select the **Video** tab at the top of the capture screen. Pan slowly across the room, making sure each item is clearly visible for at least a moment. Aim for 10–30 seconds per room. Tap **Done** when finished recording. MovingBox will process your video and extract item detections. ## Reviewing Detected Items After analysis completes, you'll see a list of detected items with AI-generated details for each one. * **Keep** — Adds the item to your inventory * **Skip** — Dismisses the item without adding it You can edit any item's details before or after saving. ## Tips for Best Results Record in a well-lit room. Natural light or bright overhead lighting gives the best results. Pan slowly enough that each item is visible for at least 1–2 seconds. Avoid fast sweeps. Cover the full room — shelves, surfaces, and floors. You can record multiple clips for large spaces. Avoid pointing directly at mirrors, windows, or reflective surfaces, which can confuse detection. ## Importing an Existing Video You can also import a video you've already recorded from your camera roll. Tap the **+** button to open the capture interface. Switch to the **Video** tab. Review and edit the record before saving, especially for unusual, obscured, or valuable items. MovingBox does not store your photos (or any of your personal data) on our servers. When you use the AI recognition feature, your photos are securely processed and immediately deleted after analysis. The only photos stored are those you choose to save as part of your item records, which are stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account if iCloud sync is enabled. While our AI is quite advanced, it may struggle with: * Items in poor lighting conditions * Very unusual or unique items * Items where key identifying features are obscured * Very new products that weren't in the training data For best results, take photos in good lighting with the item clearly visible. You can always manually edit any details the AI doesn't get right. Local first: Video analysis will extract one frame per second from your video, locally on your device, so that your entire video is not uploaded to our LLM provider. If given permission, we will also extract the audio track and use Apple's speech recognition library to extract additional context for use in analysis. We then send the transcript and the extracted video frames up to our LLM provider for analysis in several batches. Items are identified, images are cropped and organized, and finally items are re-analyzed to provide the best possible view and context of each item. Value estimates are generated based on AI knowledge for similar items, and data may be inaccurate. These estimates are approximate and may not reflect the exact value of your specific item, especially for rare, antique, or limited edition items. For insurance purposes, consider getting professional appraisals for high-value items. ## Data Management MovingBox uses iCloud backup to automatically sync your data across all your iOS devices signed in with the same Apple ID. Additionally, all data can be exported as a CSV along with a directory of item photos. Yes! Simply install MovingBox on your new device and sign in with the same Apple ID. Your inventory will sync automatically through iCloud. Shared homes carry over automatically via iCloud. Sign into the same Apple ID on your new device and all your homes — including ones shared with you — will be there. You can add an unlimited number of items in both free and pro plans. However, free users are limited to 50 AI image analyses and 1 photo per item. After using all 50 AI analyses, you can still manually add and edit as many items as you want. ## Third-Party Services We use TelemetryDeck for anonymous analytics to improve the user experience. No personally identifiable information is collected. Sentry helps us monitor app performance and crashes to ensure stability. It collects technical diagnostic information but does not track personal user data or inventory content. OpenRouter routes our AI requests to Google Gemini Flash for image processing and item recognition. Images are processed in real-time and immediately deleted after analysis. All requests are authenticated through AIProxy, ensuring your device is authorized to use the service without exposing API keys. Premium users' data is backed up using Apple's CloudKit framework, which provides secure storage in iCloud with Apple's privacy protections. ## Your Rights You can access all of your inventory data directly through the app. Everything you've added to MovingBox is viewable and editable.
